Book Excerpt: Get a Sexy Voice

get a sexy voiceI'm launching a new blog series today that'll roll every Friday of each week, featuring selected excerpts from my acclaimed manual on meeting, dating, and succeeding with women. If you've already got a copy of the book, these should serve as nice weekly refereshers! And if you haven't gotten yours yet, here's a small sample of what you're missing...

Today's excerpt is on how to get a sexy male voice, from my eBook How to Make Girls Chase: Every Tactic and Technique You Need to Get the Girl(s) of Your Dreams. Voice is one of those topics that's tragically under discussed; it's a huge fundamental, and (if Mehrabian's numbers are right) it comprises a whopping 38% of what you communicate to other people -- and women. Not your words, mind you -- your voice itself.

This is an area you should definitely pay a little attention to...

Your voice is one of the most powerful tools in your arsenal. It can be used to attract, to seduce, to build intrigue and capture a woman’s interest.

If you listen to women talk, you’ll notice first off that some women have appealing voices; you’ll also notice that other women have unappealing voices. Some women have voices that make you think, “Wow, she’s cute, but she must be a nerd.” And other women have very sexy voices.

It’s the same with men. There’s a great deal of variation in voices; in fact, every man’s voice is in fact surprisingly flexible in how it can change and evolve. Your voice is most likely the result of the way people around you spoke as you were growing up. If you were raised in Northern England, vs. Southern California, vs. Australia, vs. South Africa, you will have a different accent, for instance. And within each of those accents, there are even different voices.

Before we get into the deeper stuff though, first let’s cover some of the vocal basics:

Hey Anon,

I just got back final edits on all videos today -- coming into the homestretch here, just a few more things to do. Hoping to have it out by the end of this week... will be out shortly!

"The solution recommended by voice coaches is to make or feel the back of your tongue floating upward."

This makes no sense to me. I don't get how to do it, could you elaborate some and give examples of sounds or words that make this happen naturally? (AKA "t" sound in "cat")

Awesome blog, huge help with the women and my life. Keep it up, man!

Just reading this made my voice sexier... A little freaked, but I don't mind too much. Hahaha

Hey Chase, I won't say anything about another great article as that goes without saying :)

Would you have an link with a vocal example of the "bounce"?

I'm surprised that, although the "hyoid bone" is the first topic Chase addresses concerning improving your voice,
when I google "hyoid bone voice" or "lingual bone voice" or "hyoid bone pressure," or "voice raising back of tongue," I get nothing except anatomy books.

I really feel that Chase described my problem with my voice. He said it was my hyoid bone. And then he told me the solution is making the back of my tongue float upward.
PLEASE HELP. Please direct me to your source. I have read several books on improving the speaking voice, and this does not sound familiar. Is there a explanation somewhere of this remedy you prescribed?

Also, I LOVE YOUR BOOK. I think it might be the greatest book ever written on this subject.

And about the "Purr" in George Clooney's voice, I always thought that, too, about his voice, and I wanted it. Are you sure this is attainable? I don't know how to "add this to your voice." That's kind of like saying, "Notice how Johnny Depp's featured are so chiseled. Add this to your face, and watch women begin to swoon." I hope I'm wrong though and that there's a method to adding the "purr."

Maybe we should write to Clooney.

Hey Chase, you mention "do the right exercises", thing is, there are a hundred exercises recommended on the web, and they're all different.

Which ones have you done and found useful?

Charm's picture

Great article. However, I feel like you should've included more advice when it came to opening up the voice. I'm currently working on improving my voice in order to make it easier for me to talk and express my thoughts, and man I can tell you it's a lot of work. I noticed that people consistently ask me to speak louder, even when I'm pushing my voice to full capacity. Anyway, I stumbled upon a book recently (Don't know if I can mention the name) that had exercises for releasing one's natural voice.

There are so many things that hinder a person from talking normally it's incredible. (Tension in the tongue, the jaw, larynx, and the neck, are prime examples). Tension also fucks with your ability to articulate well. A lot of times I ended up mumbling or stuttering when talking because the airflow was cut short. Nevertheless, I'm continuing to read said book and have noticed some improvement. I've learned to stop speaking from my throat and to instead speak with my diaphragm, and I feel like I don't have to force myself as much to speak clearly.

So if putting less pressure on your hyoid bone still doesn't improve your ability to speak well, their might be other things that are holding you back. Tonality is probably the most important thing in "game," so it's crucial that you optimize it.

Hey Charm, your message got my attention, I think it would be OK to write the book's name and if you could share the exercises you're doing that'd be cool :)

The book is called Freeing the Natural Voice: Imagery and art in the practice of voice and language. What this book essentially says is that everyone has an optimal pitch range in which to express the many nuances of emotion. Everyone has a natural voice they are born with, and the more you tamper with this natural voice the less efficient your vocal mechanism will be.

The book begins by getting you connected with your body and freeing tensions in the body that prevent you from being spontaneous (you can't be witty and charming and eloquent when there's tension present). Later, it has exercises for freeing vibrations, opening the jaw, the tongue, and all this other eye opening stuff you never thought about.

I can't really detail the exercises here (because it's a 360 page book) but if you're having problems with throat tension I can tell you now it is most likely your tongue that's causing the problem. A tense tongue is going to tense your larynx and and significantly reduce your vocal power. You also need to have a relaxed jaw that doesn't divert from its natural path. So first I suggest you go on Youtube or some other websites and learn to relax the jaw. Practice that until you get it right (may take a day or two), then look up some tongue stretching exercises as well.

I have a history of social anxiety, which created a lot of tension throughout different areas of my body. This book is helping me go back to my default state of being.

Nevertheless, the book requires a lot of patience in order to fully understand and muster every single emotion describe in it. If you are going to purchase it then make sure you are dedicate and persistent. But once you finish it you will be a new man.

". I noticed that people consistently ask me to speak louder, even when I'm pushing my voice to full capacity. "

Yeah same here man. It's really annoying to have people say "what?" and "hmm?" to what one says in normal everyday settings. It happens to me a lot even in non-loud environments, like at the store or at restaurants., and in louder environments like dance clubs I basically have to yell and use the "talk into a person's ear strategy".

Here's an example of what my own voice sounds like. Like... it's just dull, and I have a lower than average ability to express emotions because of it(they always say, "you sound so bored")

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=943hU94dyoU&list=UUTClyIBtsqJ23Wd6bzClD_g

It kinda fueled some of my sadness during my teenage years, having to deal with this short-coming.

I've met several guys, including myself, that just have a boring vocal tonality and lower than average loudness capacity by nature. So I'm glad there's someone else out there who's had a problem like this.

The Severus Snape character(played by Alan Rickman) from the Harry Potter series I believe is another strong example of a sexy voice that women love. Would you guys agree?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5drkUpCF3WU

Brainbuster's picture

Yes, I'd agree that many women find Rickman's voice extremely sexy.

He's usually in those lists of sexiest male voices.

His voice has no breathy/raspy quality...like Johnny Depp...it sounds as if he's holding his breath as he talks.

Also sexy voices are:

Sean Connery
[video:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0t1_usmB30s]

Mel Gibson (watch Payback)
[video:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ly7_DVUYQ8k]

Jeremy Irons (voice of Scar from the Lion King)
[video:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bg8i6iWPgi8]

Daniel Craig
[video:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PtWiTpZL8FE]

I've noticed that all of the above sound as if they aren't letting out much air, not exhaling much as they talk.

A useful exercise I learned from a book called Speaking with Skill (by Dudley Knight) is basically yawning, but sticking your tongue out forward as you yawn. That's how I explain it, anyway. And I've found that useful.

Anonymous's picture

and how do you remember to correct your voice? I mean, sometimes I completely forget about it and start talking as I usually do (very fast, in a way that makes understanding what I say difficult) and only after some minutes I realize I wasn't paying attention to my voice.

We r reading the article. I see more comments in just a few days. I think it is goof for people men and women to be natural. You may need to speak up a little bit (volume), but just be clear. Getting loud unnaturally is a turn off to both men and women. There is no such thing as an alpha male either, it is a buzz word. The younger generation is being mislead. The real name is people who are stuck in the "terrible twos" -bona fide reality. Or asshole is accurate as well. Soft voices can be sexy, soft is good, just be clear. You be higher energy in a atmosphere of high energy, music, concert, games, etc, and soft in quitter atmosphere.

Just before reading this article, I read a little about deepening my voice. Want I read was mainly about the fact that our voices cannot be developed at this age, and that the age when we should have been trying to deepen our voice was 12, when our voices were cracking.
The articles also mentioned that if we continuously keep on putting pressure on our vocal chords (that is, speaking from our lower throat), they will get damaged.
I wish to know how to prevent any damage from happening and how deep can we take our voice to.
*Great article though!*
